• Footpath Works 2026

    The longterm aim...

Cornwall Council, Cormac, County Farms and Friends of Meudon Woods are working together on a longterm plan to create an ‘all-weather’, ‘four-seasons’ footpath all the way from Carwinion Fields to Maenporth Beach.

    2026 improvement works...
The section through the 1995 woodland plantation will be re-made on its original route along an old farm track. We hope that this will be better-drained and less prone to waterlogging than the current path.
The rustic track will be re-established to provide occasional access for light forestry vehicles for woodland maintenance. Along this will run a gravel-surfaced footpath about 4ft (1.2m) wide.

    FAQs

If you have a question about the works or would like to know more please email treasurer.meudonwoods@gmail.com

Qu. What type of forestry vehicles will use the track?

Ans. Most likely to be a forestry pick-up truck.

Qu. What kind of woodland maintenance are the Friends planning to do?

Ans. [1] There are about 3km of barbed wire and stock-netting fences criss-crossing the woods. Volunteers have started dismantling these but hand-balling the rolls of used barbed-wire and netting from the woods more than doubles the work. Being able to take these away in a truck will be a game-changer.

[2] There are several groups of hazels uphill of the public footpath. To increase biodiversity we plan to coppice the hazels on a rotational basis. The light hitting the woodland floor triggers a resurgence of dormant wildflowers which attract a wide variety of insects and butterflies and provide habitat for birds and mammals to feed and nest. Vehicular access will allow us to bring in equipement and take out a harvest of usable hazel products.
