Fungi are nature's clean-up crew, breaking down dead plants and animals to recycle vital nutrients back into the soil. The mushrooms and toadstools we see are the short-lived fruiting bodies of much larger organisms, each with its own vast underground network called the mycelium. This hidden web of fungi also forms symbiotic relationships with over 90% of plants, helping them share resources and thrive.
